Components are individually tested and the tests are terminated when a preassigned number of failures are observed for each component. The total time on test for each component is noted and a statistic is constructed by using the observed test times and the number of failures of the different components; the statistic is based on the MLE of system reliability. This statistic based on component test times is then used in specifying a decision rule for accepting or rejecting the entire system. The design of the test plan is stated as an optimization problem which minimizes test costs while ensuring that specified consumer and producer risks on the system reliability are not exceeded. Numerical examples are provided and implications of the test plan are discussed.

Optimal sample size and censoring scheme in progressively type II censoring based on Fisher information for the Pareto distribution

One of the most common censoring methods is the progressive type-II censoring. In this method of censoring, a total of $n$ units are placed on the test, and at the time of failure of each unit, some of the remaining units are randomly removed. This will continue to record $m$ failure times, where $m$ is a pre-determined value, and then the experiment ends. The problem of determining the optimal...

Optimization of Random Sample Size in Progressively Type II Censoring based on Cost Criterion

So far censored samples have been studied by many researchers. One of the most important methods of censoring is progressively type II censoring. An interesting issue in the discussion of censoring is determination of the optimal sample size. Various factors are influential in determining the appropriate sample size, the most important of which is the sampling cost criterion. In this paper, ass...

Tracking Interval for Type II Hybrid Censoring Scheme

The purpose of this paper is to obtain the tracking interval for difference of expected Kullback-Leibler risks of two models under Type II hybrid censoring scheme. This interval helps us to evaluate proposed models in comparison with each other. We drive a statistic which tracks the difference of expected Kullback–Leibler risks between maximum likelihood estimators of the distribution in two diff...

A redundancy allocation problem with the choice of redundancy strategies by a memetic algorithm

This paper proposes an efficient algorithm based on memetic algorithm (MA) for a redundancy allocation problem without component mixing (RAPCM) in a series-parallel system when the redundancy strategy can be chosen for individual subsystems. Majority of the solution methods for the general RAPCM assume that the type of a redundancy strategy for each subsystem is pre-determined and known a prior...

Inference for a Skew Normal Distribution Based on Progressively Type-II Censored Samples

In many industrial experiments involving lifetimes of machines or units, experiments have to be terminated early or the number of experiments must be limited due to a variety of circumstances (e.g. when expensive, etc.) the samples that arise from such experiments are called censored data. Cohen (1991) was one of the earliest to study a more general censoring scheme called progressive censor...
